Ask the Master, Secretary or Tyler if there are any candidates present to take the exam (based on exam responsisbilities).
Go over the exam with the Candidate(s) and make sure that all are ready.
Divide the exam based on the number of candidates.
If any candidates are borderline, ask another officer or Past Master to listen and evaluate.
Do not take a candidate into the lodge unless he is ready.
When the meeting reaches the point that they are ready to hear exams, take the candidates into the lodge.
Make sure that they have an apron on.
Check with the tyler to make sure that the lodge is open on the proper degree.
Take the candidates into the lodge, west of the altar and have them salute the Master.
Introduce the candidates to the Master and the lodge (e.g. "Worshipful Master I have the pleasure to present Bros. ___ who have presented themselves to take the exam in the __ degree.
After the Master has made his remarks, leave the candidates at the altar and proceed to stand directly in front of the Secretary's desk (Do not have your back to the Master). This distance ensures that everyone speaks loud enough to be heard by everyone.
Conduct the exam. Do not prompt the candidates too quickly, give them time.
At the conclusion of the exam, return to west of the altar with the candidates and make the motion that the exam be accepted (Do not comment on the exam, that is for discussion on the motion.) Say something like, "Worshipful, this concludes the exam and I move that Bros. ___ be found proficient in the exam of the ___ degree."
After voting is complete, seat the candidates with the brethren.
